Tony Gallagher Photography ~ Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve

Travel and Location Photography

The tallest dunes in North America are the centerpiece in a diverse landscape of grasslands, wetlands, conifer and aspen forests, alpine lakes, and tundra.

This was my first time to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in Colorado. Please click on the slideshow link here Tony Gallagher Photography ~ Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve to see the full photo gallery. What an incredible place. It’s really bizarre to see this kind of landscape in the Rocky Mountains. I felt displaced and at the same time I was in awe. Put this place on your to-do list.

It gets really hot, so check out the website link above to make sure you go prepared. We were lucky enough to go in mid June when there is mountain snow run off which creates a river you can wade in to cool off your feet. The sand gets up to 140 degrees. We got a little wind burned up there. Photographing on the dunes can be a challenge. The sand will blow all over you. I opted to use my trusty Leica Dlux 4 for this trip.
